Trage Tocht Vilsteren 13 km
95% unpaved walking past the Kluizenaarsmeer (Hermit’s Lake), the tea pavilion and the hermit’s hut — the estate’s finest half-day hike.
The Trage Tocht Vilsteren is a much-loved route from the well-known Trage Tochten (‘slow walks’) series: 13 kilometres along forest paths and sandy tracks, almost entirely unpaved. You pass the Kluizenaarsmeer, the tea pavilion and the hermit’s hut — the romantic folly structures with which the estate was embellished in the landscape style.
Along the way dense forests, moorland pools and viewpoints alternate. Bring water and something to eat; there’s barely any catering en route, and that’s exactly the charm.
