Winter: sledging down the Lemelerberg
When it snows, the Lemelerberg turns into the Vechtdal’s sledging hill — and afterwards the wood stove awaits.
🛷 Sledging when it snows
Does snow fall in the Vechtdal? Then the Lemelerberg is the place. The ice-pushed ridge rises 78 metres above the flat land and the open slopes are perfect for sledging — a great winter outing for young and old, about fifteen minutes’ drive from the bungalow. Bring a sledge and go.
🐑 Lambs in the sheepfold
Even without snow, the Lemelerberg is worth a visit in winter: the flock of sheep that roams the heath in summer is then in the sheepfold. Around February, some 250 lambs are born — a free outing children can’t stop talking about.
🥾 Winter walking
A clear frosty day is the finest day for the route Lemelerberg: topnatuur (3,6 km) across the quiet southern slope — frosted junipers, drifting sand and winter visitors such as fieldfares and redwings.
🔥 And afterwards: the wood stove
Back in the bungalow, the winter programme awaits: the wood stove on, the barrel sauna warm and in the evening the starry sky above the forest. Winter is secretly our finest season.
